How Cannabis Delivery Works in SF
San Francisco has approximately 22 licensed cannabis delivery operators covering every neighborhood in the city. Delivery is legal, regulated, and operates under the same state licensing requirements as brick-and-mortar dispensaries. All delivered products are lab-tested, properly labeled, and come from licensed businesses.
The basics:
- Hours: 9AM–10PM (state law)
- Age: 21+ with valid government-issued photo ID (checked at delivery)
- Delivery area: Most operators cover all of San Francisco; some reach into neighboring counties
- Delivery fees: Typically $0–$20 (often waived on orders over $50)
- Speed: Same-day delivery standard; some offer 60–90 minute windows
- Payment: Cash preferred; some accept debit. ID checked at the door.
The Eaze Story: Rise, Crash, and Rebirth
No discussion of San Francisco cannabis delivery is complete without the story of Eaze — the company that tried to become the "Uber of weed" and became one of the most spectacular startup implosions in Bay Area history.
The Rise
At its peak, Eaze was the dominant name in cannabis delivery. The company reached a $700 million valuation, processed 120,000 deliveries per month, and raised hundreds of millions in venture capital. The pitch was irresistible: on-demand cannabis delivery via a slick app, powered by Bay Area tech talent. Eaze was the cannabis industry's first true unicorn hopeful, and it seemed destined to own the market.
The Spectacular Collapse
What followed was a case study in corporate implosion. CEO Jim Patterson was found guilty of conspiracy to commit bank fraud — the company had been misrepresenting the nature of its business to obtain banking services, a consequence of the federal prohibition that makes legitimate banking nearly impossible for cannabis companies. Eaze burned through $350 million in venture capital, laid off staff in waves, and filed for bankruptcy in 2024.
The Acquisition
In December 2025, cannabis company Vireo acquired Eaze for $47 million — a fraction of its peak valuation. Eaze now operates as a brand under Vireo's umbrella, and it has a physical dispensary presence in San Francisco (including the Eaze on Haight location at 1685 Haight Street). Whether the reborn Eaze can rebuild trust and market share remains an open question.
Eaze's collapse illustrates the fundamental tension in cannabis: the industry operates in a legal gray zone where federal prohibition makes basic business functions (banking, credit card processing, insurance) extraordinarily difficult. Even a $700M company could not navigate that gap without consequences.
Notable Delivery Services
Flower Company
Flower Company has built a strong reputation for same-day delivery across San Francisco with a catalog of 350+ products. The company focuses on competitive pricing and a wide selection that rivals brick-and-mortar menus. Flower Company's app and website make ordering straightforward, and delivery typically arrives within a few hours of placing your order.
Sticky Thumb
Sticky Thumb represents the legacy, non-corporate side of cannabis delivery. While companies like Eaze chased venture capital and rapid scale, Sticky Thumb has maintained a smaller, more personal operation rooted in San Francisco's pre-legalization delivery culture. For customers who prefer supporting independent operators over corporate brands, Sticky Thumb is the move.
City Greens
City Greens offers free delivery on orders over $50 with a typical delivery window of 90 minutes or less. The service covers all of San Francisco and has built a loyal customer base through reliable service and consistent product availability.
Buzz Delivery
Buzz Delivery operates across Northern California, including San Francisco, making it one of the broader-reach options. If you are traveling between SF, Marin, the East Bay, or Wine Country, Buzz can deliver to most of your stops.
The Tech Behind Delivery
Meadow
Meadow, a graduate of Y Combinator's Winter 2015 batch, does not deliver cannabis directly — instead, it builds the backend technology that powers many dispensary delivery operations. Meadow's point-of-sale and delivery management software is used by dispensaries across California to manage inventory, compliance, and delivery routing. If you have ordered delivery from a San Francisco dispensary, there is a reasonable chance Meadow's technology processed your order behind the scenes.
Delivery is ideal when you know what you want and do not need in-person guidance. If you are a first-time cannabis buyer, we recommend visiting a dispensary in person so a budtender can walk you through product options and dosing. See our What to Expect guide.
